Apparently some people are outraged by a recent cover (NSFW if you work for extremely uptight people) of BabyTalk magazine because it shows a baby breastfeeding, complete with (gasp!) a bit of side boob.

I honestly am at a loss as to why this would upset anyone, let alone a readership that is mostly mothers. When did the human body become something to be ashamed of? Now, I have an admitted bias as I’m a huge fan of boobs to begin with, but seriously what is the big deal?

Nothing is more natural than mammals breastfeeding. I can’t help but wonder if these same people would want chickens to lay their eggs in private so the public is safe from the perversity of such a spectacle. I mean, chicken vaginas are involved! Seeing something like that could scar a child for life! And don’t get me started on those exhibitionists the cows. Walking around defiantly with their utters just flapping in the wind tempting their offspring into lewd and lascivious suckling. Can you believe their audacity?!

Get over yourselves, people. There are plenty of things in this world that actually warrant your outrage. There’s no need to go creating artificial problems. If you want to lash out at obscenities that your 13-year-old shouldn’t be exposed to, how about taking aim at what’s happening in Tibet. …or Darfur. …or Guantanamo.

Gayle Ash of Belton, Texas, you are an idiot. Stop making shit up to get angry at. Breasts are not inherently sexual. In fact, they’re inherently nourishing. If you’re honestly worried your son or husband will “accidentally see a breast they didn’t want to see”, then denial is clearly a bigger problem for you than obscenity. Trust me, they’ll be just fine.
